Fitter and Turner Work Pants, Shirts and Boots for Machine Shop Conditions
Lathes, mills and grinders leave swarf, coolant and metal dust on your gear by the end of a shift, and anything loose is a genuine catch risk near rotating machinery. You need fabric that resists oil and abrasion, sleeves you can secure, and boots that grip a workshop floor.
Fitter and Turner Work Pants and Shorts
- 295GSM stretch cotton canvas with DURA500 reinforcing (WP.1/WP.3) Resists breakdown from repeated oil and coolant exposure better than a lighter fabric
- Double-layer reinforced pocket bags Stops a steel rule or calipers tearing through the pocket
- Stretch back yoke and knee panels Allows movement at the bench and on the floor without restriction
Fitter and Turner Work Shirts
- 185GSM stretch cotton twill (LSH.1/SSH.1) or 150GSM vented ripstop with adjustable sleeve cuffs (LSH.3) The adjustable cuff option lets you secure sleeves away from spindles and chucks when needed
- Triple-needle stitched seams Resists tearing from repeated contact with bench edges and machinery
- Dual chest pockets Keeps tools and notes accessible at the bench
Fitter and Turner Safety Boots
- 62-durometer slip/oil/heat-resistant rubber outsole (WB.1/WB.2) Keeps grip on workshop floors contaminated with coolant and oil
- Composite safety toe Meets standard workshop safety requirements without the added weight of steel
- NITROLITE phylon midsole Cushions a full shift standing at the bench or on the shop floor
The work boots range shares this 62-durometer outsole and composite toe construction across most models. For fitters working alongside mechanical trades, the mechanic workwear range covers similar oil and grease resistance.
Fitter and Turner Workwear FAQs
Why do fitters need a shirt with adjustable cuffs rather than a fixed sleeve?
Adjustable sleeve cuffs, available on FXD's vented ripstop shirt, let you cinch sleeves down away from a rotating spindle or chuck when needed, and loosen them for airflow when you're away from machinery. A fixed sleeve doesn't give you that flexibility.
Does FXD's work boot range include metatarsal protection for handling heavy stock?
No current FXD boot includes dedicated metatarsal guarding. The composite toe and puncture-resistant insole board on select models cover toe and sole impact, but metatarsal-specific footwear should be sourced separately if that's a genuine risk in your role.
Why does the fitter and turner pant use canvas rather than a lighter ripstop fabric?
The 295GSM canvas prioritises abrasion resistance and oil/coolant durability over the lighter feel of a 180 to 240GSM ripstop pant, which suits the constant fabric contact with benches, chucks and swarf that fitting and turning work involves.
